Alfred Russel Wallace was born January 8, 1823. By his twenties he had left England to collect natural history reseach. He was one of the first westerners to lay write extensively about the tropical world. His most well-known works include Darwinism, The Geographical Distribution of Animals, and Island Life. He died November 7, 1913.
